Livradois-Forez regional natural park
The park covers a variety of altitudes, rising to the 1634m peak of Pierre-sur-Haute in the Hautes Chaumes du Forez.
This landscape is dotted with “jasseries”, traditional highland farm houses that once housed both the family and livestock during the summer period.
The region’s rammed-earth buildings have stood the test of time, and Roman art is evident throughout the area: in the Dore valley, Livradois, a number of buildings from Roman times are still standing.
In July and August, a tourist train runs from Courpière to Chaise-Dieu, offering panoramic views across the Dore valley.
The lake is just 3 km from the centre and plays host to a variety of leisure activities:
Beach, lifeguard supervised swimming, volleyball, canoeing, rowing, yachting and children’s games A calm environment in which to relax and unwind after a busy day’s activities and exploration.
